Christies

The Winston Group at Christie’s
opened last Thursday (19/02/04) to an enthusiastic group of well-wisher’s,
art fans and plain ole’ ‘lookey-Lou’s’- enthusiastic
it may have seemed to some, if not only for the free sushi (provided by Sushi
Catering Amsterdam) and gratis vodka, courtesy of Stolichnaya.
But the work on view afforded those same individuals the opportunity to see
some of the Winston Group’s greatest hits if not their contribution
to ‘classic realism’ from their vaults, in addition to showing
some of the work by such featured guest artists- Rob Renoult, Danielle Kwaaitaal
and Micha Klein.
What stimulated Christie’s to open their hearts and offer their space
at no charge and to embark on such a modern, if not unexpected course, to
invite the Winston Group to permeate their walls? A presumed desire, it seems,
to gain entrée into that selective if not seductive world of contemporary
art. And as we all know, the artist’s of today, certainly become the
anticipated buys of tomorrow, which in some way falls squarely into the path
of Christie’s artistic business plan- past, present and future.
Oh, and
those of you interested in buying work now instead of waiting for that proverbial
future when the prices will be surely higher than they are now, you can always
ring the Winston Group’s Anne Rijke, mistress of art on (06 50 207 202).
And look out for the next Winston Group collaboration in Christie’s!
